Peru's Legal Boom

Peru's legal sector is booming thanks to a strong economy, investment grade and a trade agreement with the United States.

LIMA – Peru's fast-growing economy is boosting demand in nearly all sectors, including the legal sector, which is surging despite substantial challenges.

This year, the economy is expected to grow some 9 percent, while foreign direct investment is forecast to jump more than 50 percent, versus 2007, to total more than $8 billion.

A rising tide lifts all boats.

"Now that the country is developing, it needs more lawyers, particularly specialized ones," says Raul Barrios, a partner at Barrios, Fuentes and Gallo in Lima.
