Servers: IBM, HP Grow Most

IBM and Hewlett-Packard lead the way in server sales in Latin America, while Sun Microsystems is suffering from falling sales, according to new data from market researcher Gartner. Dell also did well, although lagged behind IBM and HP in growth.

All in all, a total of 103,174 server units were sold in Latin America in the third quarter, an increase of 18.1 percent from the same quarter last year. Their combined vale was $727.4 million, an increase of 17.9 percent, according to Gartner.

"Latin America’s server market continued to show double digit growth in the third quarter of 2008," says Gartner analyst Lillian Alvarado. "While the server market in the region continued in its path of growth, competition is also strong for market share, and this has affected average prices."
