Promotions & Appointments in Latin America Business

Alexander Kazan has joined New York-based brokerage firm Auerbach Grayson & Company as Vice President of Latin American Equities. Kazan served as Managing Director in the Latin American Equity Strategy group at Bear Stearns. Prior to joining Bear Stearns, Kazan served as the director of emerging markets research for a boutique research firm where he advised global macro hedge funds on monetary policy and politics.

Vicente Trius, President and CEO of Wal-Mart Asia, has been named President and CEO of Wal-Mart Latin America. Prior to the Asia regional office, Trius led Wal-Mart Brazil for 11 years. Trius' education includes an Executive MBA at Darden School of Business and studies at the Harvard Business School of Executive Education, Ashridge College in the U.K., and the University of Barcelona.

Russ Warner has been appointed Managing Director, Latin America for SageCreek Partners. Prior to SageCreek, he was VP Sales for Alianza, based in Mexico City.

Henry Fischel-Bock has been named to lead business development and institutional relationships in Latin America for International Planning Group. He joined IPG in November 2008 as a senior vice president.

Sofia Ioannou has been named Managing Director of MTV Networks Latin America, succeeding Pierluigi Gazzolo, who was recently appointed Chief Operating Officer for MTVNI.  Previously Ioannou served as EVP of Business and Legal Affairs & General Counsel for MTV Networks International and MTV Networks Latin America.  Before joining MTVNLA in 1995, Ioannou was Corporate Counsel for Southeast Regional Management and TJAC, Inc., a partner of Wal-Mart. Ioannou holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Justice from American University and a law degree from Nova Southeastern University Law School.  She is a member of the Florida Bar, American Bar Association, South Florida’s Regional Counsel and the Television Association of Programmers Latin America (TAP).

Francisco "Frank" Sanchez has been named under secretary for international trade at the Commerce Department and Miriam Sapiro as deputy U.S. trade representative. Sanchez, a veteran of the Clinton administration, recently served as a policy advisor on Latin America to Obama's presidential campaign.  

Jenny Hourihan has been appointed Chief Financial Officer of Pro Mujer, a leading microfinance and women's development organization operating in Latin America. Prior to Pro Mujer, Hourihan served as Managing Director and Sector Head of the Paper and Forest Products Group at Bank of America Securities. Hourihan has also held leadership positions at Merrill Lynch, Citibank and Salomon Smith Barney. Hourihan received a B.A. in Economics from Swarthmore College.
