Juan Manuel Santos, Colombia’s new president, has said his new team is “better than [Spanish soccer team] Real Madrid.”
He may just be right. The new cabinet boasts an impressive group of people, many of whom are well-respected business people or technocrats. Among them: Diego Molano Vega, who served as deputy director of corporate affairs in the Latin America division of Spanish telecom giant Telefonica and as director of regulatory and government affairs at U.S.-based BellSouth when it operated in Latin America. Molano will serve as minister for Technology and ICT.
His finance minister, Juan Carlos Echeverry, is widely respected both in Colombia and internationally. “All of Wall Street knows … Juan Carlos Echeverry,” Bulltick Capital Markets head of research Alberto J. Bernal-León said earlier this year.
