Latin Wireless Index: The Vivo Factor

If anyone doubts the value of Spain-based Telefonica’s $9.8 billion takeover of Brazilian carrier Vivo, all they need to do is take a look at the quarterly revenue performance of the two carriers.


Whereas Telefonica has seen a decline in dollar terms this year, Vivo has gained an average of 44.3 percent each quarter.

 

As a result, Vivo, along with Brazilian carrier TNL (using the Oi brand) continue as the stars of the Latin Wireless Index from Latin Business Chronicle, while Telefonica is the laggard.

 

Overall, Latin America’s wireless sector gained in the second quarter compared to the same period last year, the index shows.
