Janszky: Brazil's Time Has Come

Brazil's time has come, but it needs to get its act together in terms of infrastructure, argues Milbank’s Janszky.

BY THIERRY OGIER

SÃO PAULO – Andrew Janszky, managing partner of the Sao Paulo office of U.S. law firm Milbank Tweed, reckons that Brazil’s time has finally come. “The sixties were the decades of German researchers, the seventies and the eighties were more with the Japanese, then came the Asian tigers [and] it has been China’s turn for 10 years,” he says. “I very sincerely believe it is our turn now. It is not a solo act, but I believe we get our chance to be important players on the stage.”

Brazilian-born Janszky, who was just selected one of Latin America’s Legal Stars by Latin Business Chronicle,  has captained Milbank’s 10-lawyer, Latin American office in São Paulo since last April after working with Shearman & Sterling for 24 years. In 2003 he helped found and co-chair Shearman’s Sao Paulo office with Richard Aldrich.
