The multilatinas have grown up. Latin America's leading global companies now are beating their multinational peers both in terms of revenues and growth, according to two new Latin Business Chronicle indexes - the Multilatina Index and the Latin MNC Index.

Meanwhile, multinationals are seeing stronger growth in Latin America than their total increases, the MNC Index shows.

The indexes each include 20 leading companies in their categories and looks at the latest quarter revenue data that is available for all firms.

While multilatinas – Latin America-based multinationals – posted average growth of 26 percent in second quarter revenues, the multinational companies saw global revenues grow an average of 14.3 percent. Even their fast-growing
Latin America divisions lagged the multilatinas. On average the 20 multinationals in the Multinational Index posted Latin America growth of 21.9 percent in the quarter.

Meanwhile, the 20 multilatinas posted more than twice as much in revenues as the multinationals.
