BOGOTA – When Adriana Echeverri applied for a junior position at Ecopetrol in 1994, the state-run oil and gas company was so lumbering and bureaucratic that the selection process took nine months. It was, says Echeverri - a mother of two - “like a pregnancy.”


But for both sides her arrival was worth the wait.


Echeverri quickly moved up the corporate ladder and was named Ecopetrol’s chief financial officer in 2007. The Bogota native is one of the few women to hold such a high position in the energy sector. She’s also been a key player in...
