Venezuela at the bottom

Chile tops the Latin Business Index 2012, while Venezuela remains the worst country.

Apart from Chile, the top five countries include Panama, Peru, Mexico and Uruguay.

After Venezuela, the other leading laggards include Argentina, Honduras, Bolivia and El Salvador.

The 2012 index broadly measures the climate for business in 18 countries in Latin America. It focuses on five main categories: macro environment, corporate environment, globalization and competitiveness: infrastructure level and political environment.

The winners and losers in each category are:

Macro environment: Peru at the top, Venezuela at the bottom.
Corporate environment: Chile at the top, Honduras the bottom
Globalization and competitiveness: Panama at the top, Venezuela at the bottom
Infrastructure level:  Panama at the top, Nicaragua at the bottom
Political environment: Chile at the top, Venezuela at the bottom
