Argentina: More Inflation Doubts

Doubts continue about official inflation statistics, resulting in even higher price pressures.

While the Argentine statistics agency INDEC releases fresh inflation figures, there is widespread doubt about their acuracy. INDEC claims that February inflation ended up at 0.3 percent month-over-month and declined to 9.5 percent on a year-on-year basis.

"The surprisingly low February CPI reading has increased concerns among market participants about the legitimacy of CPI data in Argentina," Credit Suisse analyst Carola Sandy wrote in a commentary today.
